When You Don’t Make A Decision, You Make A Decision!

When you don’t make a decision to get healthy and fit, when you don’t decide to take that step, make the committment, and start taking healthy action in your life to drop the fat and get fit you actually are making a decision.

Yep, that’s right, by not deciding to take that healthy action that you need to take to get fit and get the body that you say you want, you are making a decision to stay as you are (or get worse).

You Are Where You Are

By not making a decision to change your lifestyle you are deciding to stay unhealthy by default. Am I saying this to scare you? Not really, I’m mentioning it to point out the fact that you already have all the power you need to effect positive change in your life.

If you have been stuck in a place of indecision and feeling unmotivated, by becoming aware of the fact that you actually have made a decision (to stay un-fit), that awareness brings you into the present moment and will help you see that you do have the power to decide and commit – you’re already doing it (deciding), it’s just that you’ve decided to commit to action that won’t give you the result that you want.

Get Real, Get Honest, Get Conscious

Self-honesty is at the core of making progress with your weight loss and fitness goals and when you take that step of taking full responsibility for where you are at today, being ok with it, and realizing that you have made a decision to not move forward and lose weight by not deciding on an action plan, then you have someplace to start from.

This is a much better place to be, living with the awareness of where you are right now, than staying stuck in thinking that you’ll “start tomorrow” or start on that Monday that never comes. Awareness is always the first step and awareness will help you make a different, healthier decision. Awareness always preceeds change and awareness is necessary in order to become consciously fit.

You must become aware of not only exactly what you are putting into your body but also aware (conscious) of your thoughts, feelings, and take conscious action to get fit. Awareness of where you are today is a step in the right direction if you truly desire to not only lose weight but also keep it off and stay healthy and fit.

Hey JoLynn,

Excellent article! It is hard to believe sometimes that those non decision decisions hold as much or more power than our every day decisions.

Even starting sentences, Today I decide that I am…… would change the course of the day.

I think I will start using “I decide” more often!

Thanks for the encouragement!

Hey JoLynn,

Great post. We are either procrastinators or motivated do-ers. We can become either, and sway between them. It can be a tenuous balance. The awareness you speak of is the key.

Lack of awareness and loss of connection to yourself can quickly drive you into the arms of procrastination. Those arms represent comfort and security for many. You don’t need to commit to anything, in fact it requires no effort at all to put progress on the long finger.

However, this is false comfort, this is a false sense of security. Those arms are not protecting you, they are holding you back.

Breaking free is not easy, it requires discipline, habit forming and some sacrifices, but the rewards are invaluable.
