Inspired Action & The Ghost at The Fit Shack – Boo!

Do you ever feel like doing absolutely nothing no matter how much you feel you should do something?

Do you ever find it very hard to get yourself motivated to get moving? On the other hand, have you ever experienced inspired action?

Inspired Action vs. Forced Action

Inspired action is action you take because you feel, well, inspired to take it! It’s tricky though because if you only wait around to feel that inspiration it may be a long time coming, but you can get out there and seek out inspiration. Talk to other people, have fun doing whatever it is that you like to do, read, play with your pets, your kids, go for a walk, work in the yard, whatever you can do to switch it up and get a new perspective.

Forced action is action that you force yourself to take, simple as that. Sometimes it works to force yourself to take action, it’s not always a “bad” thing – once you take action you get yourself moving and build momentum and then you can gain inspiration along the way and keep on going. The only thing with forced action is that if you are taking tons of action to get a result it can be counter productive – if you were instead taking focused, inspired action you wouldn’t be working as hard but you would be getting better results. ;)

Imperfect Action

Either way can work in the beginning to get you moving – it’s more about taking some kind of action whether or not it’s perfect. In fact I’m all about taking Imperfect Action today – forget the perfectionism, it will only bog you down.

As long as you ACT, no matter whether or not it’s perfect, you can get yourself moving and build some momentum. This means that you do not need to wait for that perfect time to start eating better, to start walking, to start drinking water – just do it now!

There will still be those times when you might just feel like nothing is really working for you, like you just seem to be limping along and not getting anywhere….

The Ghost at The Fit Shack

Ghost in the RockMaybe you’ve noticed, maybe not, but there’s been a ghost lurking around The Fit Shack and yeah, Halloween gave me the inspiration (inspired action!) to write about this. You see I’ve been having a heck of a time writing lately – yep, it’s true!

You know when I started this site almost 2 years ago I was rip roaring writing a minimum of 5 days a week plus – I would write 5 posts a week and in addition I started doing daily motivational posts, so I was pumping out around 10-14 posts a week. That was a lot of writing.

I ended up settling into a regular routine of posting 5 days a week, Mon – Fri but lately, over the past month or so, I’ve been struggling with sitting down and writing. I think about it, put it off, I have ideas, I jot them down, I write a little, and then don’t.

Sound Familiar?

Can you relate to this at all with your weight loss and exercise routine? Do you tend to:

  • Think about it
  • Intend to do it
  • Not do it
  • Put it off
  • Make a few changes and then stop
  • Tell yourself you’ll do it later
  • Wait to feel inspired
  • “Try” to get motivated

Can you see how this is the same kind of thing that I’ve been going through with my writing? It’s exactly the same issue and taking some kind of action in either situation will help us move on and make progress.

Take Some Kind Of Action

I do believe in inspired action as opposed to a forced, busy type of action, meaning forcing yourself to take action over and over again because you think that will get you the results you want instead of taking focused, inspired action. However, if you simply take some kind of action, even if it’s not perfect, you will find that that action will catapult you into more action and on!

This is what I’m doing right now with this post – I am taking action and writing about where I’m at in this moment. And the more that I write, the more I want to write.

It’s the same thing with your healthy eating and exercise regime – if you can just get started and take some kind of action, even if in the beginning it might feel like you’re “forcing” yourself to, just give it a try and see how that action propels you forward to take more action.

The more you do the more you will want to do, and instead of putting all of your focus into a number on the scale focus on how you feel when you take healthy action. Focus on how much better you feel about yourself for treating yourself better, for moving your body, for feeding it healthy, live foods, for drinking clean water, for taking care of yourself. When you focus on these things the weight will take care of itself because you will continue to take healthy action since it feels good to treat yourself well!

The Ghost of The Fit Shack has Risen

So with this post the ghost of The Fit Shack (hey, that’s me!) has arisen and taken action. My wish for you is that today you take some kind of healthy action that will inspire you to take more of the same. It just starts with some kind of small action, and if you have some inspiration to get ya moving then that’s even better.

Remember too, that you can find that inspiration simply by living, by breathing, by laughing and having fun - so get out there and live it today and take some kind of healthy action for yourself!

Great post JoLynn :)

I do believe I am having an inspired REaction to your piece, and going to write some music.

Great food for thought. My mind is hungry.

A lot of people are doing 30 days of writing for NaNoWriMo, or 30 days of blogging with NaBloPoMo. Me, I’m doing 30 days of exercising. (Haven’t made up a cute abbreviation for it yet.)

Merry, that is so funny because at first I didn’t know what you were talking about but I googled those phrases and now I got it. ;)

I love it that you’re doing 30 days of exercising though, that’s even better than the 30 days of writing!!

It can be difficult at first to do any workout routine. Once it becomes a habit after you force yourself to go it changes to the desire to go. You even feel guilty when you don’t go after you develop that habit.
