Healthy Weight Loss or Weight Loss at Any Cost - What’s Your Choice?
One thing that I think should be very evident to you if you’ve been a smart reader of The Fit Shack for a good while now is that I advocate creating a healthy lifestyle, not only to get that weight off but also to keep it off for life.
After all if a prescription for a diet and exercise plan were enough then no one would be overweight, right? It’s not like there isn’t enough information out there on how to eat and exercise, albeit you do need to make sure that you’re following a healthy plan, not just some fad diet or quick fix magic fairy dust.
With that being said if you have just started reading here at The Fit Shack you’ll notice that this is not your ordinary diet blog but instead is about making changes from the inside out, inner changes that will make it easy for you to change your physical actions and create a healthy lifestyle. You see anyone can force themselves to follow a diet and exercise routine but why wouldn’t you stick with it? What are the thoughts that you’re thinking and the feelings you’re feeling? Are you white-knuckling it all the way? If you are then that sure isn’t going to last; who the heck wants to live like that?!
Nope, a healthy lifestyle is fun - it’s a lifestyle filled with healthy, whole foods that you enjoy eating because you like their taste and you love the energy they give you. You not only love the energy that whole foods give your body but you also love the focus and both mental and emotional clarity they give you. You also love how you feel when you’re moving your body.
You love treating yourself with healthy actions because you really like who you are. In fact you not only like yourself but you love yourself. You treat you like you would treat your own best friend.
So The Fit Shack is about getting healthy and fit rather than a way to lose weight at any cost and if you’re looking for a quick fix diet or want to stay in a negative mindset then this is not the place for you. Doesn’t mean that it won’t be the place for you later and you can always come back at a future time if you’re just not ready to drop the stinkin’ thinkin’ today and change your mindset, emotions, and outlook on life as a whole.
So if you’re interested in getting healthy and having weight loss be a by-product of your healthy lifestyle journey then stick around. If you’re looking for me to give you some magic fairy dust to take all your problems away then come back in the future when you’re ready to do your inner work.
And hey, it’s ok if you want to look better in your clothes, I do too, it’s just not my main motivator nor do I suspect that it’s yours. Health and a passion for life is where it’s at here at The Fit Shack and if you’re choosing health above quickie weight loss and you’re ready to change the inner you then stick around and enjoy!

I am a new reader and I appreciaet your approach. It is very important to the make the changes from within. There are many ways of losing weight and looking thin…but it shouldn’t stop there. It is important to be healthy and fit rather than slim or thin. You can only do that if you get to appreciate the importance of health. Great post.

Love great questions, and this is a great question.
Once upon a time, it would have been ‘weight loss at any cost’ mostly because the cost of not loosing weight seemed BIG, because what I thought weight loss would bring me I wanted BAD, and because I took everything else - like my health - completely for granted.
But today, weight loss is more a byproduct of what I’m really after which is peace, freedom and well-being, inside and out.
Thank you for promoting the message that a healthy lifestyle is better than any diet!! I think because our society places so much emphasis on appearance, especially for women, that many people do get caught up in the trap of how they look in their clothes. When I made the decision to eat healthy and exercise regularly, my weight stabilized without me even thinking about calories and I got SO much more energy! Plus, another beautiful side effect is that I DO look better in my clothes and my skin has a healthy glow, too. Can’t get all that from a bottle of diet pills!
At last! It is so refreshing to hear someone addressing the only TRUE way to lasting fitness and weight loss — which is changing the INTERNAL thoughts and habits that CREATE the EXTERNAL results!
Your approach is spot on JoLynn! And I’m so grateful for it! : )

Wow! Finally a POSITIVE approach to a very POSITIVE activity.
Thanks for reminding us that there is no “loss” involved in “gaining a valuable goal”.
Ours is 125 pounds and it’s nice being able to enjoy the journey.
Keep up the great work.
