Kristin,

Thanks for your thoughts but I'm really confounded on how I could possibly come across as misleading anyone. I am quite straightforward and I included a link to my own definition of eating clean in the first paragraph of my post.

I have never represented myself as a raw foodie, a vegan, a vegetarian, or as a strictly organic eater. However I even wrote in my article above that I wanted to start shopping more at the Farmer's Market and included that I am actually doing my own gardening this year. I just don't get the misleading part, but hey, not everyone is going to read what I write.

Additionally Costco sells chicken breasts without added hormones - you just have to read your labels, something I must do just like everyone else.

I applaud myself for doing so much better than I was before when I was eating out of boxes, cans, and existing on frozen dinners and fast food, all of that stuff filled with sugar, excess salt, MSG, and other chemicals, additives, and preservatives.

And no, I am not perfect, but again, I’ve never said that I was – now that would be misleading. It’s really funny because I thought that I was "radical" for living on a diet filled with whole, healthy foods while being surrounded by a society of processed and fast food, however I realize that I would be doing even better if I moved to the country and had my own farm with a garden where I completely subsisted on my own. You still don't know if something is grown organically unless you do it yourself like I’m doing with my own vegetables, that's just the way it is.

All the best to your with your own healthy eating, it sounds like you are doing just fabulous, keep it up!!

Hi there!

I find your posts very inspiring but I have one little tweek.

I know you talk a lot about Whole Foods, but you can't forget Organic foods.

You say you're eating clean, but your really not..

Even if you eat 'clean' the average 'clean' in your normal supermarket, is anything but.

Your average Produce is grown in nutrition lacking soil, sprayed with countless poisons and pesticides, and travels thousands of miles, already up to and over a week old, before it hits the shelves.

If you really want to eat clean, don't mislead people ;)
Support LOCAL farmers markets over super markets.
The food is ORGANIC, FRESH JUST PICKED, and not coated and wilted from being weeks old and full of poison.

While were talking, Organic meats, eggs, and dairy wouldn't hurt either.

Who wants to eat hormone injected eggs, and meat? That is not clean at al. Not to mention, meat from Factory farms is not good at all. You don't want to know what they subject those animals to, even what they eat, and that you end up eating through them. :(

Some might say Organic is 'expensive' but even if you shop locally, and buy organic eggs and meat, you are truly eating clean and it's not that much more, considering you are buying REAL food.

Plus look for Organic Omega 3 eggs; chickens that are fed grass instead of grains, so that you get some Omega 3 in your diet, Imagine!

Not bashing you, but I think you're doing so well, it's time to take it another step forward, at least support Farmer's Markets for produce. :)

Don't just mislead people, yes eating with preservatives is a HUGE step, but if you continue to eat Factory meat, and super market food, you are still addicted to the hormones found in that food and aren't completely off the hook.

Thanks

Nice article! Costco and Trader Joe's have always been fine choices in my book! Now if I could slow down and put together a healthy list!

Hi Heidi,

Isn't Costco just the best? I'm with you on the Farmer's Market, too, I'll be visiting more often this year, but it will be great when I've got my own produce growing. :)

I do alot of my shopping at Wild Oats, Whole Foods and of course the farmers market in the summer. I try to be organic as much as possible but it can expensive. Good list. I love Costco too!

Heidi's last blog post..Microwaves and Your Health-Quick, Hot Food- But Is It Worth It?
