Your Body Can Bounce Back If You Let It

The good Lord gave you a body that can stand most anything. It’s your mind you have to convince. ~ Vincent Lombardi

I love this quote and it ties right in to many of the posts that I’ve written before about changing your thoughts, as well as the posts I’ve written about the mind-body connection, meaning that the body and the mind are connected rather than separate.

No matter how much abuse you might have given your body up to this point, it’s not too late to make some changes and start treating your body better today. The human body has miraculous ways of healing itself, if you only give it the chance to do so. When you return to eating whole foods instead of processed, pre-packaged, additive-filled foods, when you eat only when hungry, eating for fuel instead of emotions, your body will rejoice and start working on repairing itself.

Your body can stand a lot of abuse from you, but I do think it’s a good idea to lay off and allow it to heal itself before you push it too far. If you’ve been feeding your body a lot of non-nutritive, dead, processed foods, why not start today and take away some of that processed food and replace it with some fresh fruits and vegetables? How about replacing the soda with clean water? When you give your body a break it will miraculously begin to bounce back and repair itself, if you just give it a chance.

    Hi JoLynn – What a great quote. And the idea that it’s not too late to reverse the damage is v reassuring. I just wish I could motivate myself more to actually do it.

  2. Hi Catherine, I hope you’re doing well! :)

    The quote is inspiring, isn’t it? You know, I was having a very hard time getting motivated a couple months ago when I was eating a bunch of crappy foods….processed and filled with sugar and flour (and salt). Sometimes you just gotta get off of that stuff in order to gain more motivation, but motivation can come from different sources.

    As always I recommend loving yourself as you are now….love heals all and your body will respond positively to that energy and your positive, healthy action. :)

    This is a good post.
    What you’re saying is plain common sense, but it’s so easy to lose sight of the sensible when we’re bombarding with flashy messages about the latest diet or the latest exercise craze. Working with the body instead of on the body is a much nicer approach :)

  4. This is a great post for anyone who has struggled with their weight. It is reassuring to know that, even if you have failed in the past you can still go forward and make huge success. I heard someone else put it another way (unfortunately can’t remember who) – something to the effect that you are only one meal and/or one workout away from being back on track. That’s powerful stuff!

  5. @Merry,

    Hi, and thanks!

    You’re right, when we get wrapped up in the fashion mags, it’s so easy to lose track of the real work that needs to be done.

    @Mandy, hi!

    I like that….”you’re only one meal or workout away from being on track”. That’s very true!!
