Loving Yourself Thin - The Power of Mirror Work

We’ve done many positive affirmations during this 31 Days of Loving Yourself Thin, and today’s exercise is more mirror work: go to the mirror, look yourself in the eyes, and repeat 10 times, “I love you! I am willing to love you more today than I did yesterday. I love you and I support you”. Then, get out your notebook or journal and write these affirmations 10 times each.

Yes, this is another day of mirror work for you to help you love yourself just a little bit more today than you did yesterday. One thing we haven’t covered during this series is why we do positive affirmations in the mirror, just as if you are talking to your best friend: it’s because most of the negative criticisms that you have received throughout your life have been from others who have looked you in the eye while criticizing you. Adults criticized you as a child while looking you in the eye, and even you have criticized yourself while looking in your eyes in the mirror.

So, when you speak your positive affirmations to yourself in the mirror, looking yourself straight in the eye, you are going right to the source to program your new thoughts into your conscious and subconscious mind. You will be making the quickest progress with your positive affirmations by doing regular mirror work, and since any problem in your life (in this case we’re focusing on overweight and weight loss) can be healed by loving the self more, this is just what you want: the quickest, positive progress to help you lose weight.

If you are new to the 31 Days of Loving Yourself Thin series (the introduction is a must read), the focus of these exercises is ramping up some natural motivation in yourself to take care of your health, take care of your body, and lose weight.

When you truly love and cherish yourself and your body, you will naturally want to learn how to change your lifestyle to not only lose weight, but also keep it off. By looking yourself directly in the eyes in the mirror while doing your positive affirmations, focusing on loving yourself more each day, you will gain that natural motivation to care for your body, just as you naturally care for the people, pets, and even items in your life that you currently love and cherish.

You feel silly doing this, but it works. To be positive can be a beautiful thing.

    Hi Amanda!

You’re right, it can feel a bit silly at first, but if you stick with it, that goes away. You’ll really get amazing (and quicker) results with mirror work, as opposed to only writing your affirmations (not that writing them isn’t important ;) ).

Keep it up, I wish you much success with loving yourself a little bit more each day. :)
