Lose Weight by Making Yourself a Priority

It’s Day 28 in the 31 Days of Loving Yourself Thin series and I’m asking, “What can you do today to show yourself that you love you”? What is something fun and non-food related that you can get out and do, something that maybe you haven’t done for a while because you’ve told yourself that you’re too busy, or your time is focused on taking care of others, pushing yourself aside.

Find just one thing that you can do today that you can have fun with, and while you’re doing it, repeat these positive affirmations in your mind: “I love to show myself that I matter. I always have time for me each day, I always have time to take care of my own needs.”

Before the end of the day, write these affirmations 10 times in your notebook or journal. Note any obstacles that come up for you in the form of negative thinking and negative backlash. The negative thoughts that come up when you write your positive affirmations will help you become aware of the unconscious negative thinking and beliefs that have been sabotaging you in your life (and your weight loss efforts!). So, instead of pushing them away, just jot them down and thank them for helping you understand yourself a little bit better today.

Remember that part of loving yourself is to pay attention to your own needs, and that a major portion of your needs involve your health. You are the only one who is responsible for your own health, and it is vital that you make your health a priority in your life. There is a twist to this though: if you don’t love yourself, you won’t be motivated to take care of yourself, to care for your health, and lose weight. However, if that’s where you’re at, that’s OK because you’re doing the 31 Days of Loving Yourself Thin exercises, which will help you naturally motivate yourself to make healthy lifestyle changes in your life.

Today you can start making time for yourself by doing just that one small thing that will make you smile. You can love yourself just a little bit more today and show yourself that you care for you. Remember, the fun activity that you choose is to be non-food related. I’m sure that you can come up with something that doesn’t involve food, and it doesn’t have to be expensive. Put together a puzzle, get together with a friend, play with your pet, go for a walk or a bike ride, start painting that room you’ve been meaning to paint (if you enjoy painting, I love it ;) ), or read a chapter of a book, whatever it is that you enjoy and will show you that you are taking care of you!

If you have just stumbled upon this exercise, please read the introduction to get an understanding of the foundation and focus of the series. The introductory post also lists all current exercises in the series, and you can start from the beginning and go through each of the exercises for the next 31 days. Day 14 is also a good read because it reviews the background of the 31 Days of Loving Yourself Thin series. Have fun with them!

Hi, thanks for your comments! :)

@ysobel, thanks! When it comes right down to it, it’s all up to each individual to make their health a priority…no one else will do it for us!

@Cherry, thank you! A spa treatment sounds wonderful, and that would be a great non-food reward!
