Are you aware of the power of your subconscious mind? It doesn’t know the difference between fact or fiction, so if you repeatedly tell yourself (affirm) that you cannot lose weight, you can’t stand your “fat thighs”, you are a “failure” for not succeeding at weight loss, or that your metabolism will never change, your subconscious will take these thoughts (negative affirmations) in for you, and make them true.
On the other hand, if you tell yourself that you can lose weight, you love your body just as it is now, you are a success at life, and that your body responds to the love you give it and easily becomes healthier, then your subconscious mind will make these thoughts come true. You subconscious is your own little magic genie, your own personal computer, and whatever you feed it (affirm) is what you will get in your life.
It might be hard for you to love yourself as you are now, 10 lbs, 30 lbs, 200 lbs overweight, however your body is going to respond positively to the loving thoughts that you give it. Trust me, you aren’t going to get anywhere by affirming how much you cannot stand your overweight body because not only will your subconscious mind go to work to keep you overweight when you focus (affirm) that, you will also resist positive action because you are feeding yourself criticism. Criticizing yourself won’t get you positive action, but if you love yourself as you are now, your body will respond positively, just like you do when you are praised for anything in your life.
Today’s exercise is to go to the mirror, look yourself in the eyes and tell yourself, “I love you. I love you no matter how much you weigh or how much you eat. I know that you want to lose weight and I loving support you through the process while releasing any and all criticism of you and your body”.
Repeat this affirmation 10 times in the mirror, and then write it 10 times in your notebook or journal. Both the mirror work and the written work will impress these positive, loving statements upon your subconscious mind, which will assist you in making positive changes in your life. This is just another step towards lovingly assisting yourself to make healthy changes in your life, instead of trying to “strong arm” yourself with self-criticism.
Besides the books that I recommended to you on Day 1, there is a wonderful little book by Louise L. Hay (I actually recommend anything that she has written or recorded) titled, Love Your Body: A Positive Affirmation Guide for Loving and Appreciating Your Body
. Beyond the 31 Days of Loving Yourself Thin exercises that we are doing here at The Fit Shack, you could go even further with the affirmations in this book.
You can find the introduction to the 31 Days of Loving Yourself Thin exercises here, which includes a list of current exercises. The review day on Day 14 is also a good read to give you background on these exercises.

Hi JoLynn – This exercise is a great idea. And I agree the subconscious mind is so powerful.
You can even convince yourself that you love things you used to dislike. I did this with rollercoasters – I was terrified of them, and now I’m addicted.
Just made decision to lose some weight. “subconscious” idea sounds not a bad idea. Will do as what you said. Make it coordinate with a plan calls for five meals a day. Wish I could lose some weight. If I am success, I will spread this idea in my friends at largeplace.com
Indeed the subconscious mind works in most of all cases,is like an other person that tells you to do a thing that you wouldn’t do it, and you’re right, you will regain your health by loving your body
Hi all, thanks for your comments!
@Catherine, that’s so funny (but an excellent example!) that you used your subconscious mind to like roller coasters! I have a friend who also used to be terrified of them and now likes them…I’ve always loved roller coasters, but I still scream when I ride them.
@Erica, you can definitely lose weight if you think you can.
I’d support you in changing “Wish I could lose some weight” to “I can lose weight” and “If I am success” to “I am successfully losing weight and gaining health”. Imprint those affirmations on your subconscious mind by writing them, speaking them, and thinking them.
While you want to choose a healthy way to lose weight, by doing these affirmations you’re guaranteed to go much further than if you were not to change your limiting thoughts and beliefs.
@Watch, I have to say that your subconscious mind always works. Now whether or not you get a positive or a negative outcome depends on what you’re telling it, because it just does what you say, what you think and believe.
The one thing that can trip you up is if you have unconscious limiting beliefs, those thoughts that you aren’t aware of. That’s why when you do your positive affirmations and get those negative responses from yourself (i.e.: “yeah right, this won’t work!”, or whatever response you get), you want to write those down. That’s how you become aware of them, so you can then change them into positive affirmations.
