I Can Lose Weight
Today, your exercise in loving yourself thin is to pick one of your limiting beliefs regarding the topic of weight loss or your body and turn it around into a positive affirmation.
Here’s a couple of examples regarding weight loss: if you tell yourself that “I cannot lose weight”, that “it’s too hard to lose weight”, or that “I’ve been eating like this for too long, it’s just not possible to change”, then take one of those negative affirmations and turn it into a positive.
Here is what each of these would look like as a positive affirmation:
- I can lose weight.
- I easily lose weight now, or, my body easily loses weight.
- Change is always possible, it’s just a thought.
- I am willing to change (this is a good one to start with if you have a great deal of resistance to change).
Just pick one of your negative beliefs about weight loss or your body and turn it into a positive affirmation. Be sure to state your affirmation in the present tense (I am, rather than I will) and keep it positive.
Once you have a positive affirmation, write it in your journal (pen or pencil and paper, it’s much more powerful than typing on a keyboard) at least 10 times. After you’ve written your affirmation 10 times, write down any feelings or thoughts that this brought up for you, no matter what they are.
Thoughts of resistance (what a waste of time, how can this ever help me!), or thoughts of joy (hey, I’m starting to feel some motivation, even if just a little!), whatever your thoughts or feelings, write them down. This can help you uncover even more negative beliefs that you weren’t aware of previously, beliefs that have been sabotaging your best weight loss efforts.
If you have a negative, limiting belief that you’re not sure how to turn into a positive, present tense affirmation, feel free to leave me a comment (or if you have any other questions about this exercise). Also, please feel free to leave a comment if you would like to share any thoughts that came up when you did the exercise. ![]()
