Always Strive For The Positive Thought

Nothing is either good or bad, only your thinking makes it so. ~ William Shakespeare (Hamlet)

When you are going through a rough time, it can be difficult to turn your thoughts around, but the more often that you can keep them focused on the positive, the better off you will be.

Why is this so important? If you are an emotional eater, you turn to food when you are going through difficult times. If you’re entertaining a majority of negative thoughts, those thoughts will most likely lead you to food. On the other hand, if you can focus on the positive, no matter how hard that may be, the less you will be creating more problems for yourself (overweight), since you will be less likely to eat emotionally (at least for negative reasons!)

What happens though, when those difficult times pass and you reach a good point in your life? Inevitably this will occur, but if you used food to soothe yourself through the bad times, you now have the problem of excess weight to deal with. To avoid this problem, I suggest always remembering that nothing is either good or bad, only your thinking makes it so.

Is this easy to do, easy to choose the positive thought? Not always. It’s not always easy for me to do, either. I also see the value in feeling your feelings, no matter how icky they might feel, since it definitely won’t help to stuff them down with food. However, after feeling them for some time, you can consciously begin to focus on the positive in your life.

What it comes down to is that you can either make your situation better or worse; it all depends on how you think about it. There will always be at least one positive thought that you can find about your situation, no matter how dire.

Always Think Positive
©2006 by Max Steingart

You cannot always control your circumstances.
But, you can control your own thoughts.
There is nothing either good or bad,
only your thinking makes it so.

Things turn out best for those people
who can make the best out of the way things turn out.
It’s not the situation, it’s your reaction to the situation.

The reality in your life may result from many outside factors,
none of which you can control.
Your attitude, however,
reflects the ways in which you deal with what is happening to you.

Life at any time can become difficult.
Life at any time can become easy.
It all depends upon how you adjust yourself to life.

What you see in your mind is what you’ll get out of life.
