How Dofollow Affects Comments on The Fit Shack
I recently learned that by default, Wordpress (the blogging platform that this site runs on) automatically inserts the nofollow tag in all comments.
What this means is if you are a blogger and you leave a comment on a blog that is using nofollow in their comments, then Google will not recognize the link to your blog (learn more here).
The intended purpose of nofollow was to avoid promoting spammers’ links, however you can install the Wordpress plugins Akismet and Bad Behavior to protect against spam, along with moderating your comments.
I have installed the DoFollow plugin by Kimmo Suominen on The Fit Shack and the (non-spam) comments on my blog will be followed by Google. I have configured the plugin to remove nofollow after 2 days to account for any spam that gets through on the off chance. All comments on The Fit Shack are moderated, so as soon as one appears on the site, it is open to be followed by the search engines. Therefore, if you have any comments, questions, personal experience to share or other feedback on my posts (or regarding my site), feel free to leave them!
There is also a Dofollow plugin available by Semiologic. Presently, I know of only a few blogs who are allowing Dofollow in their comments:
If you are a blogger running Wordpress, I encourage you to look into this topic. Dofollow can help your blog’s comments, as well as help your blogging readers gain more links. ![]()

I’ve been using DoFollow for sometime now and participated in all of the hype surrounding it by leaving comments on posts like this. I think it does build more of a community as encourages comments which is what we all like to see right?
I absolutely agree with Marcus, DoFollow encourages visitors to comment. And if you’re getting spam comments - just install Akismet plugin.
Hello,
Congrats, your site is now listed on the updated Do Follow List!

Thanks for the update nicursor!
I’ve been thinking about this and whether or not it is a positive thing for my blog, but if I make a change I will either update this post or write a new one.
