21 Days to a New Habit – Daily Motivation

If you have a lifetime of unhealthy eating and exercise habits behind you, you may feel overwhelmed at the thought of making changes.

It could be quite intimidating to consider committing to multiple changes for the rest of your life. Instead, you could start with just one change, and commit to it for 21 days.

You have likely heard that it takes 21 days to create a new habit. When you act consciously and consistently for 21 days, you can establish a new, positive, healthy habit in your life. You do not have to change everything at once, but can start with only one change.

For instance, if you currently drink a lot of soda, you could make the commitment that for the next 21 days, you will replace that soda with water. Another example is exercise: if you currently lead a sedentary lifestyle, you could make the commitment to walk for 15 minutes, 5 days a week for the next 3 weeks.

When you break your new lifestyle changes down into 21 day commitments rather than committing to changes for the rest of your life, implementing new changes will be much less intimidating. After you complete 21 days, you can then recommit to another 21 days to reinforce your new habit. Eventually, you may not be able to imagine living as you did before.

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore,
is not an act but a habit.
